Case Study: Osborne House

In early 2009, we began creating a brand new website for Osborne House Women's Shelter. Early meetings with the client established several guidelines for the design. We realized that in addition to our usual cross-browser standards, the target demographic included users with very limited computer usage experience, and possibly limited hardware as well. This meant that the front end needed to be not only inviting, but also very lightweight and easy to use. The client specifically requested that site navigation should remain visible at all times, without the use of iframes. Content would be managed in-house after our involvement using basic HTML.

A PHP framework was developed in tandem with the visual design, allowing for a two-level menu navigation built server-side. The content pages were separated from the PHP to allow the client to edit content without disrupting site function. The site was designed to dynamically resize according to various monitor resolutions.
